Powerbanks with over 27000 mAh are extremely rare! Powerbanks with 27000 mAh correspond to +- 99Wh, which is the limit of what you can easily take on board an airplane.
So I was extremely surprised when Anker launched the PowerCore 40K, a powerbank with 40000mAh. That makes this currently Anker’s largest powerbank.
But how good is the new Anker 347 PowerCore 40K 40000mAh? Let’s find out in the test!
A big lump!
At 169 x 85 x 46 mm, the PowerCore 40K is a huge powerbank! This is clearly the largest and heaviest powerbank from Anker, away from the powerstations.
On the weight side, we have a whopping 937g, or nearly 1Kg of powerbank. For comparison:
Anker 347 PowerCore 40K – 40000 mAh – 937g.
Sandberg Powerbank USB-C PD 100W – 38400 mAh – 767g
VEGER 30000mAh Powerbank – 617g
This makes the powerbank quite “massive” even for the super high capacity. Especially since we don’t have a special case either.
This consists of a good, but simple plastic. However, the build quality is typically above average for Anker.
Plus points are awarded for the 8 status LEDs in the power button, which inform you about the charging status.
Connectors of the PowerCore 40K
The PowerCore 40K has two USB A and two USB C ports. This is a decent port configuration to begin with.
USB C – 30W Power Delivery – 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/2.5A, 15V/2A, 20V/1.5A
USB A – 18W Quick Charge – 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A.
The two USB A ports support Quick Charge 3.0 with up to 18W, great!
But more exciting are the two USB C ports. These offer up to 30W of power according to the USB Power Delivery standard.
30W is sufficient for smartphones, but a bit low for larger devices like notebooks.
The powerbank can also be charged via USB C with up to 30W.
PPS is also supported
The Anker 347 PowerCore 40K also supports the PPS standard with 3.3-15V at 2A on its USB C ports.
PPS is important for smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S23. On a powerbank without PPS but with 30W USB C ports, an S23 would charge with a maximum of 14W.
Here, we would get +- 18-20W thanks to PPS.
The capacity, really a 40000 mAh powerbank?
Certainly the most important thing about the powerbank is the capacity of up to 40000 mAh, according to Anker. But how does it look in practice?
Here’s what I was able to measure:
Wh | mAh | |
5V/2A | 121,8 | 32916 |
9V/1A | 124,2 | 33568 |
9V/3A | 128,2 | 34649 |
20V/1,5A | 120,7 | 32622 |
I was able to measure a capacity of up to 34649 mAh or 128.2 Wh. Not quite what the manufacturer promises, but 87% of the manufacturer’s specification is already a good value!
At worst, it was still 32622 mAh or 120.7 Wh. This makes this one of the biggest powerbanks I’ve had my hands on so far!
And I mean this seriously, 34649 mAh is a top value!
0% to 100% charged in 7 hours
The 30W USB C port is basically okay, but not overly powerful either. We see this especially when charging the powerbank. Thus, this can charge with just under 30W.
On an appropriate USB PD charger, the powerbank is filled from 0% to 100% in 7 hours.
This is acceptable, but not overly fast even by any stretch of the imagination.
On a regular USB A 5V charger, a charge would take 38 hours! So please use a USB PD charger in combination with the Anker 347 PowerCore 40K.
Conclusion about Anker’s largest powerbank
In principle, the Anker 347 PowerCore 40K is not a bad powerbank. This one is completely focused on one feature and that is the capacity.
So this one offers a whopping 34649 mAh, which is top notch. This is one of the largest powerbanks currently on the market. If you want more capacity, then you have to reach for a powerbank.
However, aside from the high capacity, it looks a bit mixed. Especially the “only” 30W USB C port holds the powerbank back a bit.
30W is okay for smartphones and tablets, but usually too little for notebooks! Very unfortunate, because the large capacity would actually make the powerbank ideal for notebooks.

The high price also speaks somewhat against the Anker 347 PowerCore 40K. As an alternative, take a look at the Sandberg Powerbank USB-C PD 100W 38400.
However, you just want high capacity and the price is ok for you, then grab it!
