The ENEGON 2800mAh NP-FZ100 battery in test, really 2800 mAh capacity

We have already looked at some NP-FZ100 batteries on Akkutest. Unfortunately, the original Sony battery is and remains unbeaten in terms of capacity.

However, I got my hands on a new battery, the ENEGON 2800mAh. 2800mAh? This battery is supposed to offer a significantly higher capacity than all other NP-FZ100 batteries, including Sony’s own battery.

On paper, the capacity of 2800 mAh is a lot higher than the usual 2280 mAh or 2250 mAh.

But what does it look like in practice? Do they really have such a high capacity or is ENEGON advertising a fantasy capacity?

The ENEGON 2800mAh NP-FZ100 battery in test

The ENEGON 2800mAh is a very inconspicuous NP-FZ100 battery. This one relies on a very simple but functional black case. We don’t have much manufacturer branding here, aside from the sticker on the bottom.

This also “confirms” the specification of 2800 mAh.

A good way to check whether the capacity of a battery can be accurate is to look at the weight. Heavier batteries often have a higher capacity.

However, there is nothing conspicuous here at first glance. At 78.7g, the ENEGON 2800mAh NP-FZ100 battery is of average weight.

I had no problems with the fit in my Sony A7R IV.

The test setup

I test the ENEGON 2800mAh NP-FZ100 battery with a so-called electrical load. With this load I discharge the battery and measure the capacity.

I discharge the battery to 6.0V, which in my experience is +- the voltage at which the Sony cameras declare the battery empty.

I discharge the battery once at 1.5A and once at 0.2A. Why 1.5A? Sony specifies the runtime of the A7R IV as 90 minutes when filming, which results in a load of 1.52 A with a battery capacity of 2280 mAh of the original battery. This is pretty much the worst case load the battery will ever experience.

The 0.2A is a rather slow discharge, as in leisurely photography.

The capacity

Now we come to the exciting point, the capacity. Does the ENEGON battery really have 2800 mAh or at least an outstanding capacity?

And the answer is no. We have here again the classic case of a manufacturer who advertises with a completely exaggerated capacity.

However, the capacity of the battery is not bad either! This is clearly one of the better, if not the best, replica NP-FZ100 batteries. Especially under high load, it cuts a very good figure.

Conclusion

I don’t want to say that the ENEGON 2800mAh NP-FZ100 battery is fundamentally bad, it just advertises a completely exaggerated capacity!

The battery is on the same level as other good NP-FZ100 batteries, but below the original Sony battery, and the 2800 mAh specification simply doesn’t fit.

Therefore, I cannot recommend this one! I would go for the Blumax NP-FZ100 Gold Edition, comparable performance but somewhat more honest marketing.
